Selection Rules

Japan-based teams, or teams whose members belong to a university/college in Japan, are selected for Asia Regional Aizu On Site Contest as follows:

Prerequisite

The team need have participated in the Domestic Contest held on July 12, 2013.

Step 1

The following procedures are performed for all teams in a descent order of their scores. Let A be the team of interest.

        Rule 1:

If the total number of teams selected so far is less than 5:
A is selected as a participant in the Asia Regional Aizu On Site Contest, if less than 4 teams have been already selected from the same university/college.

        Rule 2:

If the total number of teams selected so far is less than 10:
A is selected as a participant in the Asia Regional Aizu On Site Contest, if less than 3 teams have been already selected from the same university/college.

        Rule 3:

If the total number of teams selected so far is less than 20:
A is selected as a participant in the Asia Regional Aizu On Site Contest, if less than 2 teams have been already selected from the same university/college.

        Rule 4:

If the total number of teams selected so far is less than 26:
A is selected as a participant in the Asia Regional Aizu On Site Contest, if no team has been already selected from the same university/college.

          Rule 5:

If the total number of teams selected so far is less than 28:

The team, which has at least 1 female contestant and solved at least 1 problem in the Domestic Contest, if no team has been selected from the same university/college in Step 1 and less than 2 teams have been selected in view of Rule 5, is selected as a participant in the Asia Regional Aizu On Site Contest.

 

Step 2 [Ikebe Memorial Award*]

     Scope of school: a university/college with no team selected based on scores of Domestic Contests from 2010.

     The team will be selected from those teams not selected in Step 1 based on the score order and the satisfaction of the following conditions:

(1)  The team should be from a university/college, whose team has not been selected in Step 1.

(2)  The team should be from a university/college, which is in Ikebe Memorial Award’s scope of school.

(3)  The team need to have solved at least 1 problem in the Domestic Contest.

(4)  The team should be from a university/college, whose team has not been selected in Step 2.

   Step 3

If the number of selected teams is less than 31 after Step 2: The remaining participants will be selected by the Asia Regional Aizu On Site Contest director in consideration of the results of the Nationwide Internet Contest (Domestic Contest).

Exception

If a selected team declines the invitation, an additional team is selected through Step 3.

*Ikebe Memorial Award (a tentative name) is supported by the late Prof. Yasuhiko Ikebe Endowment Fund to reward Japanese universities, whose teams have not been selected to participate in the Asian Regional Japan On Site Contest recently. The scope of school includes universities/colleges, which have had no team participating in the Asian Regional Japan On Site Contest within the past N years (N = 3 for 2013 Asian Regional Aizu On Site Contest). This award is planned to last for 5 years from 2013.
